"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."
Psalm 91:4
The psalmist knew what it meant to need shelter, and he found it under the wings of a faithful God. On the first Christmas night, heaven sent its messengers to shepherds keeping watch in the fields, and the first words the angel spoke were "Do not be afraid." Then the sky filled with a heavenly host praising God and proclaiming peace on earth. To keep Christ in Christmas is to remember that whatever you are walking through, you are covered, and the peace announced that night was meant for you. Janine Kai Robinson's Under Angel Wings puts that peace into a single image.
On the cover, a Black woman angel stands with her wings open wide, eyes closed and hands pressed together at her heart, caught in the middle of prayer. Her face lifts toward the light breaking through a sky of violet, tangerine, and rose clouds. She wears a flowing purple robe over a gold embroidered bodice, her braided hair pinned up and back, and gold lattice corners frame the scene like a window. Arched across the sky above her are the words Under Angel Wings, We Find Peace, Joy & Endless Blessings, making this a Black angel Christmas card for anyone who finds the heart of the season in prayer.
Inside the Card
The left inside panel brings the angel back in softer tones beneath Romans 15:13:
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
The right panel carries the printed message, finished with "Merry Christmas" in purple script:
Under the loving gaze of heaven's angels, may your days be filled with comfort and your heart with peace. Merry Christmas and God's blessings to you and your family.
A wide white space below leaves room for a signature and a personal word.
