"But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart."
Luke 2:19 (KJV)
Before the shepherds told the story and before the wise men brought their treasure, there was a quiet moment that belonged to a mother, a father, and a newborn King. Heaven had come down, and it fit in Mary's arms. That is the wonder of Christmas: the God who spoke the stars into place chose to be wrapped in swaddling clothes and held close to a human heart. In all the noise of the season, this card calls us back to that holy hush. Keep Christ in Christmas, and make room for a moment with the Messiah.
Moments with the Messiah paints the Holy Family as a Black family, gathered close against a deep indigo sky. Mary bows her head over the sleeping Christ child with her eyes closed and a gentle smile, her long locs threaded with gold beads and gold earrings catching the light. Her royal blue robe and head covering are edged in bands of intricate gold patterning, and gold bangles circle her wrist as she cradles the baby in a soft gold blanket. Joseph stands behind them, hooded in gold, his blue robe embroidered down the front, one hand gripping a tall wooden shepherd's staff as he looks down at his wife and son with quiet pride. The baby sleeps peacefully, one tiny hand tucked beneath his chin.
The Gift Wrapped in Swaddling Clothes
When the angel announced the birth to the shepherds, the sign he gave them was a simple one: "Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger" (Luke 2:12). The message inside this card picks up that same image and turns it into a reminder for everyone on your list. The best gift of Christmas did not come with a bow on top. He came wrapped in cloth, held by a young mother, and watched over by a carpenter from Nazareth.
Inside the Card
The left inside panel carries the prophecy of Emmanuel over a soft, pale botanical pattern: "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us" (Matthew 1:23). On the right, a sprig of holly with red berries sits above this printed message:
Remember, the most precious gifts
are not wrapped in decorative paper,
but in swaddling clothes!
He is the reason for the season.
Have a Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year!
There is plenty of open space below for a personal note.
