Description

Some women spend their whole lives waiting for permission to believe they are beautiful. Others simply rise each morning, square their shoulders and walk into the world as though it had been expecting them. You were born to be the second kind of woman. Your power was never measured in a dress size or a magazine cover. It lives in the way you carry yourself, the warmth you bring into a room and the grace you hold on to when life tests you.

Few poems have said it better than Maya Angelou's "Phenomenal Woman." First published in Cosmopolitan in 1978 and collected that same year in her third book of poetry, And Still I Rise, the poem celebrates a woman whose beauty comes from her confidence, her spirit and the way she moves through the world, qualities no fashion page could ever measure. It became one of Angelou's signature works, a crowd favorite she often performed on stage, and it reached a new generation when it appeared in the 1993 film Poetic Justice.

This latte mug carries the poem's beloved refrain, the lines that close each stanza, in crisp white lettering with key words set in gold foil script and signed with Maya Angelou's name. The black exterior and handle give it a bold, sophisticated look, and the white interior frames your morning coffee, tea or latte.

For Every Phenomenal Woman You Know

Give it to your mother, your daughter, your best friend, the mentor who saw something in you before you saw it yourself, or the woman in the mirror. It is a meaningful gift for birthdays, Mother's Day, Women's History Month, graduations and retirements. Complete the look with our Phenomenal Woman shower curtain and other pieces from the Maya Angelou Collection.
