Does your Christmas tree know it is from The Mecca? The Howard University Bison Spinning Bulb Christmas Ornament dresses the tree in Howard red, navy blue, and white, with the charging Bison logo set on a medallion that turns freely inside the bulb. One light touch and the Bison starts running. HU! You know!
Red, Navy, and White, Trimmed in Gold
The bulb follows a classic finial shape, rising from a pointed tip to a gold cap in alternating red and navy blue swirl stripes. A raised band circles its middle, embossed with a gold geometric lattice and edged in gold on both sides. At the center sits a white medallion inside a gold ring, carrying HOWARD in red above BISON in navy and a charging bison. It is mounted on small pins at the top and bottom so it rotates within its window. A gold cord loops through the cap for hanging, and the ornament comes in a plastic storage box so it can be packed away after the season and brought back out every December.
From The Hilltop to Your Tree
Howard University was chartered by the U.S. Congress on March 2, 1867, and named for General Oliver Otis Howard, the Civil War veteran who led the Freedmen's Bureau and helped found the school. Its motto, Veritas et Utilitas, means Truth and Service, and generations of graduates have carried both out into the world. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall earned his law degree there, Nobel laureate Toni Morrison studied English on The Hilltop, Kamala Harris graduated before becoming the first woman Vice President, and actor Chadwick Boseman returned as a graduate to deliver the 2018 commencement address. That record is why students and alumni around the world call Howard simply The Mecca.
A Christmas Gift for the Bison Family
Hang it on the family tree, a dorm or office tabletop tree, or a holiday wreath. It makes a stocking stuffer for a Howard graduate living far from Washington, D.C., a student home for winter break, a new graduate heading into the world, or the families who plan every fall around Howard Homecoming. For a full red, navy, and white holiday display, pair it with our Howard University Bison HBCU College Santa Claus Figurine.
