Does your Christmas tree strike, strike, and strike again? The Florida A&M University Rattlers (FAMU) Spinning Bulb Christmas Ornament dresses the tree in orange and green, with the striking Rattler head set on a medallion that turns freely inside the bulb. One light touch and the Rattler spins, fangs first.
Orange and Green, Trimmed in Gold
The bulb follows a classic finial shape, rising from a pointed tip to a gold cap in alternating orange and green swirl stripes. A raised green band circles its middle, embossed with a gold geometric lattice and edged in gold on both sides. At the center sits a white medallion inside a gold ring, carrying the orange and green Rattler head with its fangs bared and tongue out. It is mounted on small pins at the top and bottom so it rotates within its window. A gold cord loops through the cap for hanging, and the ornament comes in a plastic storage box so it can be packed away after the season and brought back out every December.
From the Highest of Seven Hills to Your Tree
Florida A&M University opened on October 3, 1887, as the State Normal College for Colored Students, with 15 students and two instructors: President Thomas DeSaille Tucker, a Pensacola attorney, and Thomas Van Renssalaer Gibbs, the former state representative who championed the school. It became Florida's land-grant college for Black students in 1891, settled on the highest of Tallahassee's seven hills, and took the name Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1953. Its motto, Excellence With Caring, still guides The Hill, and the Marching 100, known as the most imitated band in America, carries the Rattler name from the Florida Classic to stages around the world.
A Christmas Gift for Rattler Nation
Hang it on the family tree, a dorm or office tabletop tree, or a holiday wreath. It makes a stocking stuffer for a FAMU graduate living far from Tallahassee, a student home for winter break, a new graduate heading into the world, or the families who plan every fall around Homecoming and the Florida Classic. For a full orange and green holiday display, pair it with our FAMU Rattlers HBCU College Santa Claus Figurine or the FAMU Rattlers Proud Santa Claus Figurine.
