Design Details
FLORIDA A&M arches across the chest in green glitter letters outlined in orange glitter. Below it, a large 87 is printed in orange glitter outlined in green glitter, a nod to the 1887 founding year. A glitter Rattler head with white fangs sits on the right sleeve. The black body has a jersey-style yoke seam across the chest, and the ribbed V-neck collar and cuffs are striped in orange, white and green.
About Florida A&M University
FAMU opened on October 3, 1887, as the State Normal College for Colored Students, and became Florida's land-grant college for Black students four years later. Its students helped lead the 1956 Tallahassee Bus Boycott and the 1960 lunch counter sit-ins, and its graduates include Carrie P. Meek, one of the first Black Floridians elected to Congress since Reconstruction; Joseph W. Hatchett, the first Black justice on the Florida Supreme Court; and Xerox executive turned art collector Bernard Kinsey.
