Description

Dedication will cost you something. It cost Dr. King his freedom again and again. But hear me: the bars could hold his body, and they could never hold his purpose. When you are devoted to something greater than yourself, no setback can lock you in. Stay dedicated. Your breakthrough is on the other side of your faithfulness.

About This Poster

This Dedication motivational poster shows Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. behind the bars of a jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama, paired with a message about devotion and unwavering faith. The open edition poster is printed on paper and ready for framing or display as is.

The message printed on the poster reads:

Your self-sacrificing devotion to your purpose in life and your unwavering faith will carry you through times of difficulty.

The History Behind the Image

Dr. King was jailed in Birmingham several times. In April 1963, during the Birmingham Campaign, he was arrested on Good Friday and wrote his famous Letter from Birmingham Jail. The well-known photograph of King looking out through the bars of a Jefferson County Jail cell was taken later, in October 1967, by his colleague Wyatt Tee Walker, when the two men returned to Birmingham to serve sentences for leading that 1963 march without a permit after the Supreme Court ruled against them in Walker v. City of Birmingham. Supplier materials have dated this image to 1963; the photograph itself is from 1967, while the cause he was jailed for dates to 1963.
