Design Details
The front panels carry a large raised embroidered Rattler head in green and orange, jaws open with white fangs and a forked tongue. FAMU is stitched in orange collegiate letters outlined in white on the left side. Across the back, RATTLERS arches in orange above the adjustable orange strap, which is embroidered with 1887 in green. Both versions have a structured six-panel crown, a curved orange brim and matching eyelets and top button.

About Florida A&M University
Founded in Tallahassee on October 3, 1887, the year stitched on the strap, FAMU began as the State Normal College for Colored Students with 15 students and two instructors. Its students launched the 1956 Tallahassee Bus Boycott, and its graduates include tennis trailblazer Althea Gibson, jazz great Cannonball Adderley, Florida Supreme Court Justice Joseph W. Hatchett and Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek.
