Big Blue has a Grammy, a Tigerbelle dynasty, and now a Santa Claus of its own. The Tennessee State University Tigers HBCU College Santa Claus Figurine dresses a 12-inch Black Santa Claus in a classic royal blue suit trimmed in white faux fur, with a blue toy sack bearing the white TSU tiger set at his feet. For the TSU Tiger family, it is Christmas decor that carries North Nashville pride into every room.
Santa in TSU Blue
A royal blue stocking cap with a white fur brim, a sprig of holly with red berries, and a gold bell frames Santa's sculpted brown face, rosy cheeks, and full, curly black beard. His blue coat is edged in white fur and cinched with a black belt and gold buckle over white pants and black boots. One hand holds a frosted mini Christmas tree. The other carries his naughty and nice list on a long cloth scroll. A gold twisted cord leads to the royal blue toy sack in front of him, embroidered with the white TSU tiger logo and topped with a wrapped red gift, a candy cane, holly, and red and gold berry picks.
The Legacy Behind the Tiger
Tennessee State opened its doors on June 19, 1912, when 247 students arrived at the new agricultural and industrial normal school the state legislature had created three years earlier. It became a four-year college in the 1920s, received full land-grant status in 1958, and has carried the Tennessee State University name since 1968. The university's motto, Think. Work. Serve., remains the standard for every Tiger.
Track coach Ed Temple turned the Tigerbelles into Olympic legends, and Wilma Rudolph, class of 1963, became the first American woman to win three gold medals at one Olympics at the 1960 Rome Games. Oprah Winfrey finished her TSU degree in 1987, and engineer Jesse Russell, class of 1972, helped pioneer digital cellular technology. In 2023 the Aristocrat of Bands made history as the first college marching band to win a Grammy Award.
Christmas Decorations for the TSU Tiger Family
Give this African American Santa Claus figurine a spot on the mantel, a bookshelf, an office desk, or the holiday table. It makes a Christmas gift for a TSU graduate living far from Nashville, a student home for winter break, or the family that still talks about Roar on the Yard all year. Pair it with the Tennessee State Proud Santa in the knit sweater for a two-Santa display. He arrives in a green snowflake gift box with a display window, ready to wrap or set out.
