He is celebrated civil rights activist, sociologist, educator, historian, Pan-Africanist, author and editor. DuBois was the first African American to earn a doctorate at Harvard University. He was one of the founders of the NAACP and a leader in the Niagra Movement. A noted Pan-Africanist W.E.B. DuBois organized several Congresses to fight for the independence of African colonies from European powers.
