About This Poster
This Unity motivational poster features an image from the 1963 March on Washington, where marchers stood together by the hundreds of thousands, with a message about the power of standing up together. The open edition poster is printed on paper and ready for framing or display as is.
The message printed on the poster reads:
When one person stands up, he is often not noticed; but when thousands stand up together they cannot be overlooked.
The History Behind the Image
The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom brought about 250,000 people to the National Mall on August 28, 1963. Organized by a coalition of civil rights, labor, and religious groups, including A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin, the march called for jobs, voting rights, and an end to segregation. It remains one of the largest demonstrations for human rights in American history. Some older descriptions refer to it as the "Freedom March"; its official name is the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
