"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" (Psalm 133:1). There is a power that comes when the saints move as one. One voice can lift a room, but when the whole ministry rises together, arms open and faces turned toward heaven, the house cannot help but feel it. Nobody is out front. Nobody is left behind. Every dancer gives what she has, and together they become a single offering of praise. Together in Harmony captures that sacred unity in a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle, and like any ministry worth building, it comes together one faithful piece at a time.
Understanding Praise Dance
Praise dance is a form of worship in which dancers use choreographed movement to minister to a congregation. Often called liturgical dance, it turns a hymn, a gospel song, or a passage of scripture into something the church can see, with every gesture chosen to carry meaning: arms stretched wide in surrender, faces lifted in adoration, bodies bowed in humility. The practice draws on the biblical call to "praise his name in the dance" (Psalm 149:3) and on a long heritage of movement in African and African American worship. Many Black churches today have dedicated dance ministries that rehearse together, pray together, and minister as a unit, which makes ensemble pieces like this one a true picture of how the ministry works.
The Scene
Nine dancers gather in a tight formation against soft clouds of lavender, rose, and white, with a pool of teal light at their feet. Three dancers anchor the front, settled low with their skirts spread wide in emerald, kelly green, and sky blue. Behind them, dancers in a red and black patterned wrap, a shimmering pink drape, and a blue printed bodice lean into the movement, while the back row rises in long sleeves of royal blue and magenta. At the center and highest point, one dancer throws her head back with both arms flung open, crowning the group. Nearly every arm reaches outward, so the formation spreads like wings, and head wraps in green, coral, blue, and pink add bright accents across the top of the image.
About Greg Perkins
Photographer Greg Perkins has made praise dancers the heart of his creative work, capturing worship at the instant it moves from rehearsed steps into true devotion. Beyond the camera, he founded a greeting card company that has grown into one of the largest Black-owned card publishers in the nation. His original photographs become the source for artworks that are digitally enhanced or painted, preserving the authentic posture and energy of real dancers. Together in Harmony celebrates what he has long documented: the strength of a dance ministry moving in one accord.
Piecing It Together
The bold costume colors make this a satisfying build. Start with the border and the teal floor, then work the three wide skirts at the front, each a large block of green or blue. The patterned red wrap and the shimmering pink and blue fabrics in the middle row add texture that rewards patience, and the faces and outstretched hands bring the formation to life as you finish. The soft cloud background provides a calm, steady stretch to close out the puzzle. It is an ideal project for a family evening, a church fellowship gathering, or a peaceful afternoon on your own.
A Gift for the Whole Ministry
Together in Harmony is a thoughtful gift for dance ministry leaders, members of a praise team, choir directors, and the church mothers who keep everyone moving in step. Give it at Christmas, for a birthday, a ministry anniversary, or as a thank-you at the end of a recital season. When it is finished, glue and frame it for a fellowship hall, ministry room, or living room wall.
