A breathtaking work of art by Ludwig Deutsch of an African "Emir", which is a title usually bestowed upon a Muslim military commander or local chieftain. The moor in this historical image is standing in his traditional ethnic garb and has a sword in his belt as a one of the Nubian guards bow as a sign of respect in the background.
This open edition work of art measures 38x25.88 inches (paper) and 36x23.88 inches (image). It is produced on acid-free paper using archival inks.
Ludwig DeutschLudwig Deutsch was an Austrian painter who settled in Paris. Deutsch came from a well-established Jewish family. His father was a financier at the Austrian court. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts 1872-1875, then, in 1878, moved to Paris where he became strongly associated with Orientalism.
