Three things run through everything Larry "Poncho" Brown paints. The line comes first, figures outlined in one unbroken contour, bodies overlapping and interlocking. Larry "Poncho" Brown is a Baltimore native who earned his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He works across mediums and styles, drawn to Afrocentric themes, ancient Egyptology, and dance, and admirers consistently point to rhythm, movement, and unity as what they recognize first. His paintings hang in the collections of Bernard Bronner, Anita Baker, and Susan Taylor, among others. He founded Raising The Arts, which has produced more than fifty-five images supporting nonprofit and African American organizations.
