Description

Effort that ends is a wish. Effort that never quits is a legacy. Harriet Tubman kept going through swamps, slave catchers, and war, and she never lost a passenger. Hang this framed Harriet Tubman piece where you need courage, and let her example carry you past every interference.

About This Framed Print

This Endless Effort framed motivational print features Harriet Tubman, based on the famous 1869 woodcut portrait of her in her Civil War scout clothing, paired with a message about persistence through every obstacle. The image is double matted and set in a black frame, finished and ready to display.

The message printed on the poster reads:

In order to reach your goal you must continue to strive in spite of interference or treatment.

The History Behind the Image

Harriet Tubman escaped slavery in Maryland in 1849, then returned about 13 times to lead roughly 70 family members and friends to freedom on the Underground Railroad, earning the name "Moses." During the Civil War she served the Union Army as a scout, spy, and nurse, and on June 1 and 2, 1863, she helped lead the Combahee River Raid in South Carolina, which freed over 700 enslaved people. The image of Tubman in her scout's clothing comes from the woodcut frontispiece of Sarah H. Bradford's 1869 book, Scenes in the Life of Harriet Tubman.
