Description

This is the cap of baseball's greatest traveling show. The Indianapolis Clowns paired real talent with pure entertainment, and the club that played the game with a wink also gave Hank Aaron his start and put the first women on the field in the Negro major leagues. This Heritage Collection snapback brings that legacy back in royal blue cotton with a red flat brim and red top button, a red felt "C" outlined in cream on the front crown and "Indianapolis Clowns" script stitched in cream along the side panel.

The Clowns began in the mid-1930s as the Miami Giants and soon took on the Ethiopian Clowns name, building a following with comedy routines, showmanship and serious baseball. Promoter and owner Syd Pollock turned the club into the "Harlem Globetrotters of baseball," and showmen like Goose Tatum, who also starred for the Globetrotters, kept crowds laughing between innings. The team joined the Negro American League as the Cincinnati Clowns in 1943, split time between Cincinnati and Indianapolis, and settled in Indianapolis in 1946, playing home games at Victory Field.

The Clowns won Negro American League titles in 1951, 1952 and 1954. In 1952 a teenage shortstop from Mobile named Hank Aaron hit cleanup for the Clowns before the Boston Braves bought his contract, starting the career that would end in Cooperstown. A year later, Toni Stone took over at second base, becoming the first woman to play regularly in the Negro major leagues, and in 1954 the Clowns added pitcher Mamie "Peanut" Johnson and second baseman Connie Morgan. The Clowns outlasted every other Negro Leagues club, barnstorming the country for decades and playing exhibition games until they disbanded in 1989.

The cap takes a vintage, on-field approach: 100% cotton construction with a structured six-panel build, flat brim, felt and embroidered team details and an adjustable snapback closure that fits most head sizes. Heritage Collection branding on the brim and inside finishes the throwback look.

A portion of every sale supports the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, helping preserve the stories and legacies of the players who built this game before they were allowed to play it on its biggest stages.

To keep the cap looking its best, hand wash only.
