She went back. Do you hear me? Harriet Tubman got free, and then she went back again and again into danger to bring other people out. That is endless effort. When you have tasted freedom, you do not stop until everybody you love is free too. Whatever you are working toward, keep striving. Do not stop at your own blessing.
About This Poster
This Endless Effort motivational poster features Harriet Tubman, based on the famous 1869 woodcut portrait of her in her Civil War scout clothing, paired with a message about persistence through every obstacle. The open edition poster is printed on paper and ready for framing or display as is.
The message printed on the poster reads:
In order to reach your goal you must continue to strive in spite of interference or treatment.
The History Behind the Image
Harriet Tubman escaped slavery in Maryland in 1849, then returned about 13 times to lead roughly 70 family members and friends to freedom on the Underground Railroad, earning the name "Moses." During the Civil War she served the Union Army as a scout, spy, and nurse, and on June 1 and 2, 1863, she helped lead the Combahee River Raid in South Carolina, which freed over 700 enslaved people. The image of Tubman in her scout's clothing comes from the woodcut frontispiece of Sarah H. Bradford's 1869 book, Scenes in the Life of Harriet Tubman.
