Terri Meredith

Terri Andria Meredith began to focus on committing to developing her artistic talents in 2012. Originally from Newark, New Jersey she possesses a natural drawing ability, which she further pursued upon application and acceptance to Arts High School, a critically acclaimed private school of the arts, majoring in fashion design. Upon graduation from Arts High School Terri created art intermittently, as more of a hobby than the pursuit of a passion. Terri’s interest in pursuing her craft took a dramatic turn after losing her mother, Birdie, on July 10, 2012. Her need to find peace within the grief compelled her to begin drawing again in order to have a medium through which to “lose herself” while also desiring to establish a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Terri’s irrepressible love for the culture of hip hop resulted in tribute portraiture of celebrities she admired in the hip hop industry. Her fascination, in particular, with the element of dance within hip hop resulted in her attending the workshop of two well-known hip hop dancers, Les Twins, in September 2012. At the workshop, Terri presented the dancers with a gift of “T-shirts” that displayed her original artwork. One of the dancers firmly admonished her for not pursuing a career in art. This exchange resulted in an artistic awakening that was long overdue. Since September 2012 Terri has made it a goal to create every day, finding inspiration through music and dance. Her portraits and conceptual creations have paid homage to Jay Z, Beyonce’, Andre “3000” Benjamin, Wiz Khalifa, Mary J. Blige, Janelle Monae, Les Twins, and countless others. Having created an impressive portfolio of these tribute pieces, she is now concentrating on original conceptual illustrations with the goal of developing a personalized artistic style that embodies diversity. Terri’s preferred medium is pencil/graphite and she has begun exploring digital artistry.
