A tribute to the African Elder

An authentic African mask crafted to remind the viewer of the power of patience. It was inspired by the African proverb "However long the night; the dawn will break".

It depicts an African who is strong in his faith and remaining calm. He is prepared to endure and overcome.

This mask measures approximately 16.75 inches (height), 5.5 inches (width) and 3.1 inches (depth). It is made out of Sese wood and the face of the mask is intricately embossed with aluminium. You will find a variety of etched motifs at the top and detailed patterns all over the face that were inspired by West African scarification.

Handcrafted and imported from Ghana, your purchase helps support local Ghanaian artisans, their family and community. Each item is handmade so their may be slight and subtle differences in size, color and pattern. These slight differences are what makes each African Mask unique and a true work of art.

Winfred Okoampah

Winfred Ansah Okoampah was born in Eastern Ghana in 1970. I am a serious and committed woodcarver who takes pride in his work. My favorite part of crafting my artwork is the finishing process. I take immense pride in the detailing and the sanding. For my carvings, I find inspiration in my dreams and my culture. Most of my artwork is made out of Sese wood and my shop if operated in an eco-friendly manner. We use all of the wood including the scraps which are used a firewood.
