Description

An authentic bronze sculpture from Burkino Faso. A country known for artisans that specialize in the art of Lost Wax Bronze making. This way of crafting Bronze sculpture is an intense and gruelling process. The technique was first used in the 3rd millennium BC and is continued today by this select group of craftsmen in Burkino Faso.

These talented metalworkers casted this sculpture that depicts a female member of the Ndebele ethnic group of South Africa adorned in green garments and matching headwrap with neck rings. The Ndebele peoples are one of four distinct groups that make up the Nguni Tribes. "Dzilla" means "Neck Rings" in English. The Ndebele women historically would wear rings around their body including their neck after marriage to symbolize her bond and faithfulness to her husband. In times of antiquity, she would only remove the rings after his death. The husband would provide his wife with the rings. Thus the wealthier the husband, the more rings the wife would have and wear.

This sculpture is titled "Dzilla" and is available in three different sizes.

Small: 6 inches (Height)
Medium: 9 inches (Height)
Large: 11 inches (Height)

This sculpture is handmade so there may be slight and subtle variations in pattern, shape and size. This is what makes the sculpture unique and a true work of art.

Take a piece of Burkino Faso home with you and experience the beauty of their metal casting handiwork.

Absolutely thrilled with my new sculpture

This is my 3rd bronze Burkina Faso sculpture and I love all of them, but especially this one. Black Art Depot was responsive to me when the USPS was late in delivering my product and they immediately took action. Will definitely be shopping here again!
