All the Potential 2 All the Children: The Art of Cbabi Bayoc 2027 Black Girl Art Wall Calendar

In All the Potential 2 All the Children, Cbabi Bayoc uses his artistic voice to make a simple case: what a child becomes depends a great deal on what that child sees and hears. The responsibility falls to the rest of us to show her something worth becoming and to draw out the potential already in her. The girl on the cover has already received the message. She stands with a fist raised. Not in anger. In readiness. It is the posture of a child who has been told she is capable, believes it, and is ready to act.

Bayoc works in acrylic, a flat brush, and an iPad, and he uses them, in his own words, to show the dopeness of Black people. Flat planes of color, hand-lettering that runs where it wants, faces assembled from bold geometric slabs. The style is loud enough for a child's room and good enough for an adult to stop in front of.

The roots of this calendar go back to 2012, when Cbabi made a New Year's resolution to paint one positive image of Black fatherhood every day for a year. 365 Days with Dad became the project he is still best known for. It ended up taking two years to complete, partly because Cbabi was a father in the middle of his own personal fatherhood journey. Since then he has put more than twenty murals on school walls around St. Louis, painting the students who walk past them every day, and he illustrated Goodnight Racism with Ibram X. Kendi, which landed him on the New York Times bestseller list.

Cbabi (pronounced Kuh-bob-bi) Bayoc works from St. Louis, where he and his wife Reine run Sweet Art, a bakery and studio under one roof. Born Clifford Miskell Jr., he took CBABI at Grambling State as an acronym for Creative Black Artist Battling Ignorance, and later added BAYOC, Blessed African Youth Of Creativity, as something he could hand down to children he had not had yet. His standing advice to anyone who asks: keep your brush wet and paint the life that you want.
