The 761st Tank Battalion, activated on April 1, 1942, became the first Black armored unit to see combat in World War II. Despite facing systemic racism and segregation, these courageous soldiers served with distinction for 183 consecutive days on the front lines — longer than any other American unit in the European Theater.
