A large and truly exquisite beaded African Mask crafted by Master Artisan Awudu Saaed and his team.

This mask featured brass triangles on the forehead is adorned with red, blue, green, black and yellow colorful glass beads. In the middle of the forehead resides an elephant totem which is where the mask derives its name.

This African mask is titled "Akyiglinyi" which means Elephant in the Ewe language. Ewe is most prevalent in Togo and the Southeastern regions of Ghana. The Elephant has always been a symbol of strength and power.

This mask measures approximately 14.25 inches (height), 11.75 inches (width) and 5.75 inches (depth). It is made out of Rubberwood and features vibrant red, blue, green, black and white recycled glass beads, and brass accents. Weighs 4.2 lbs.

Rubberwood is an eco-friendly wood and utilizes wood from trees that no longer produce latex (Over 30 years old). The wood is used in home decor so that a new Rubber tree can be planted in that location.

Handcrafted and imported from Ghana, your purchase helps support local Ghanaian artisans, their family and the community. Each item is handmade so there may be slight and subtle differences in size, color, and pattern. These slight differences are what makes each African Mask unique and a true work of art.

Awudu Saaed

Anwudu Saaed is a friendly but quite person that started as fan of African carvings. He would congregate at his parent's workshop where carvers, designers and finishers worked. They noticed his interest and eventually Abdul Karim Star accepted him as an apprentice. Awudu was a fast learner and was determined to master this craft so that he could support his family. Eventually, he was permitted to sell some of the works he created as an apprentice in his master's workshop at various markets in Senegal, Mali, Ghana and Burkino Faso. He used the money he made to purchase his own tools and start his own workshop. He now has three apprentices of his own.
