Kadir Nelson, a native of the District of Columbia, is an award winning artist, illustrator and author. After graduating with honors from Brooklyn, New York's Pratt Institute, Kadir worked for Sports Illustrated, Dreamworks, the New York Times, Coca Cola, Major League Baseball and many other large organizations. As an author and illustrator, Nelson has won a Sibert Medal, Caldecott Honor, Coretta Scott King Award, NAACP Image Award as well as other distinguished awards and honors. As an artist, his artwork is held in the private collections of many famous athletes, actors, musicians, businessmen and women and is held in many notable and prominent public collections , art galleries, museums and institutions.
