Description

During a moment of quiet reflection, the echoes of an era still reverberate in her soul. She envisions proud warriors and innocent children forced into chains. She acknowledges the pain of men, women, and children forced to march to the sea, then held captive on the coast before embarking on the arduous journey across the Atlantic destined for the agonizing shackles of bondage and slavery.

The Middle Passage, the horrific journey of her ancestors from Africa to the Americas on overcrowded slave ships is a constant presence in her thoughts. She shudders from the thoughts of the cramped conditions, the fear, and the despair that must have filled those ships. She thinks of people torn from their homes and families, their dignity stripped away as they were sold and enslaved.

The taint of the slave trade has left scars in her spirit and tears in her eyes. The thought of 11 states and 2 claimed territories, members of the confederacy, willing to secede from the Union and start a war so they could keep her people in chains doesn't escape her. It never will.

However, she has somehow channeled the pain and struggle of the past into activism and action, seeking to make a difference in the lives of the present and future. She has refused to let the atrocities of the past be forgotten or repeated and has committed herself to making her ancestors proud.

It's still on her mind, a reminder not of victimhood, but a story of survival and resistance. A call to remember, acknowledge, and most importantly to act!
